How this site handles the small amount of information it collects.

Back to home

This is the marketing and demonstration site for GovTheme by Doghouse. Nearly all of it is a static website: no accounts and no login. The one place you give us anything is the Install this theme form, where you send us your details on purpose, and what happens to them is set out below. The demo site's own forms are non-functional and do not send or store what you type.

This site is operated by Doghouse Group Pty Ltd (ACN 109 219 490). We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

What we collect

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read; it sets cookies in your browser to tell one visit from the next. Opening the install form loads Google reCAPTCHA, which sets a cookie of its own (see Third-party services below). Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested) for security and reliability. These logs are not used to identify individuals.

Your customisations in the live preview are kept in your own browser's local storage, on your device. They are not sent anywhere unless you submit the install form.

When you ask for a packaged theme

Submitting the install form sends the following to our install service:

  • your first and last name, work email address, organisation, the site or domain you said you'd deploy on, and which platform you want the theme packaged for;
  • your answers to the two checkboxes (whether you want product updates, and your acceptance of the packaging service terms), together with the time you gave them;
  • the theme configuration you built in the customiser: colours, type and shape, and nothing personal;
  • the IP address the request came from, which we keep only as a one-way hash.

We use them to build your package, to email you the download link, and so that someone at Doghouse can follow up about GovTheme. The consent answers are recorded with a timestamp because they are the record of what you agreed to. Product updates are optional. We are not sending any at present, so your answer is recorded so we can ask you before we start, and if we do, every message will carry a working unsubscribe link.

Nothing happens until you confirm. We email you a link first, and the request is only acted on when you click it: no package is built, no download link is issued and nobody contacts you. If you never click it, the request lapses.

Every submission (accepted, refused, or a bot filling the hidden field) leaves only a one-way hash of the IP address and email address, so the limits can be counted without keeping what was typed. No name, no configuration.

How long we keep it

  • Confirmation links stop working 48 hours after you submit the form.
  • Download links and the built package stop working 7 days after the package is built, and the file is then deleted.
  • Unconfirmed requests (where the link was never clicked) are deleted after 14 days.
  • Anti-abuse records are deleted after 48 hours.
  • Confirmed requests are kept as a record of the enquiry and the consent that came with it. There is no automatic expiry; we delete them when you ask us to, or when we no longer need them.
  • Database backups are taken nightly, and each one is kept for 14 days. A record deleted from the live system (because one of the windows above ran, or because you asked us to) stays in those backups until they age out, so up to a fortnight longer. Backups are used only to restore the service after a failure.

Third-party services

Web fonts are served from this site. Reading a page makes no request to a third party.

Every page loads Google Analytics, which records the pages you visit, how you arrived and broad details of your device and browser, against cookies it sets. Google processes that for us under its own privacy practices; we see it only as aggregate reports.

Opening the Install this theme form loads Google reCAPTCHA, which is how we tell a person from a bot. It loads only when you open that form, never on a page you are simply reading, and it sends Google signals about how you interacted with the page, together with a cookie it sets in your browser, so that Google can score them. That is subject to Google's own privacy practices.

If you submit the install form, it is sent to our own install service on a Doghouse-operated host, and the emails it sends you are delivered through our transactional email provider, Resend.

Some of these providers (including Google and Resend) may store or process information outside Australia. We only use providers that handle information in line with appropriate security and privacy obligations.

Your choices

If you have not used the install form, we hold nothing about you to access, correct or delete. If you have, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it: get in touch using the details below. We'll respond within 30 days. You can also simply not click the confirmation link, and the request is deleted on its own.

If you contact Doghouse directly, any information you share is handled under Doghouse's own privacy practices.

Complaints

If you believe we have handled your personal information in a way that breaches the Australian Privacy Principles, you can make a complaint by contacting us at the address below, and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can refer your complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
